A BLC Guide

PA Homeschool Basics

You can start a new learning journey at any time. We’ll help you every step of the way.

Your teen doesn’t have to wait for a fresh start.

If school isn’t working for your teen, you don’t have to wait until next semester or next school year to make a change. Pennsylvania and New Jersey families can start a home education program at any point during the school year. For teens joining Bucks Learning Cooperative (BLC), homeschooling is simply the legal pathway that makes this different kind of learning possible.

And you don’t have to figure out the paperwork on your own. We’re here to help!

Getting started is simple.

1. Talk with us.

Email, call, or text us to tell us about your teen and what they’re looking for. We’ll explain how BLC works and help you plan the transition.

2. Navigate the paperwork with our help.

Upon enrollment, BLC provides Pennsylvania parents with instructions, templates, and individual support for the required documents, and New Jersey parents with an email template. We help you navigate the process, saving you time and effort.

3. Submit the paperwork and begin.

Your teen doesn’t have to wait until next semester or next school year for a fresh start. In Pennsylvania, you’ll submit the required homeschooling paperwork when you withdraw your teen. You’re letting the district know, not asking permission—once the complete paperwork is submitted, your teen can begin right away. For New Jersey families, we’ll help you notify your teen’s school and complete any needed withdrawal or transfer forms. We’ll walk you through the steps for your state and help make the transition feel manageable.

And after that? We help with the rest.

For enrolled families, BLC provides templates, guidance, and free access to Pennsylvania evaluators. We’ll help you understand the annual requirements and guide you through the process. Contact us to learn more about the support we provide.

Parents remain the legal supervisors of their home education programs, but with our support, your teen can focus on learning, relationships, interests, and finding their own path at BLC.

What if my teen has an IEP?

That doesn’t have to stop your teen from getting started. Pennsylvania may require a qualified special education professional to review and approve the proposed home education plan before filing. Sandy, our in-house evaluator and a Pennsylvania-certified special education teacher, can help families understand and navigate this step.
